HR Generalist


 Under general supervision of the Assistant Director of Human Resources, provide administrative, project, and analytical support for HR processes and functions across Student Affairs. Works with HR leads to process transactions, assistant departments with recruitment efforts, onboard employees, develop and maintain job descriptions, provide general guidance on personnel policies and procedures, facilitate general benefits communication, offboard employees, and maintain employment records.

Required/Preferred

Demonstrated working knowledge of the UCPath system

Preferred

Working knowledge of and ability to read, understand, interpret and apply generally accepted human resources principles, terminology, policies, and practices.

Required

Ability to produce human resources-related documents, correspondence and memos with speed and accuracy using personal computer.

Required

Working knowledge of the University's benefit programs and procedures in order to provide general counseling on health, dental, vision, disability, life, legal, and retirement information.

Preferred

Ability to analyze information or data and make specific recommendations to address issues or solve problems.

Required

Demonstrated excellent mathematical skills to calculate salaries, perquisites, work study balances, vacation and sick leave accruals, payroll changes and other necessary financial transactions.

Oral communication skills to obtain and impart information with accuracy and diplomacy.

Required

Ability to understand, retain, explain and accurately apply a variety of information and procedures.

Required

Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of information related to pay, personnel status, medical information and disciplinary actions.

Ability to establish and maintain trusting, cooperative working relationship with Campus Human Resources staff, Campus Payroll staff, management, officials and employee representatives.

Ability to work accurately efficiently and neatly with a high volume of detailed paperwork with frequent interruptions or distractions.

Ability to work independently with minimal direction.

Extensive experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Exchange/Outlook).

Skill in updating and maintaining a complex computer database.

Working knowledge of University Personnel/Payroll Policies and Procedures, MSP, PSS, and union contracts.

Preferred

Writing skills to compose statistical reports, business correspondence, internal memos and directives, departmental procedures and guidelines, and training materials that are clear, concise and that use proper syntax and grammar.

Required

Knowledge and ability to research complex problems, ascertain solutions, and make recommendations based on sound judgment and experience.

Required

Degree from accredited 4-year college or university.
