POSITION HIGHLIGHTS

  • Full Time, 40 hours per week
  • Monday through Friday
  • Location: Newington
  • This position is eligible to apply for telework after successful completion of the working test period, and thereafter, in accordance with the Telework Policy. Employees in their initial working test period must work on site in the office.

THE ROLE
This entry level position is responsible for assisting with the Impaired Driving program, and other safety programs in the Highway Safety Office. Efforts within this office contribute to the development of the Triennial Highway Safety Plan and the Annual Highway Safety Report which ensures compliance with Department policies, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) guidelines, and relevant federal laws and regulations.

This position will work closely with program leads to assist in providing guidance to law enforcement agencies and grantees through communication and partnerships. This position will assist in formulating goals and objectives for addressing safety issues associated with impaired driving as well as other programs overseen by the office. This position will work collaboratively with the CT Safety Research Center to query and analyze highway safety data utilizing Connecticut’s Crash Data Repository. Additionally, this position will review, evaluate and monitor Highway Safety grants for conformance with reporting requirements budgetary parameters and program efficiency

Examples of Duties:
  • Assist in review and approval of grant applications for various projects
  • Assist in review and processing of enforcement reimbursement claims
  • Assist in review and processing of claims
  • Assist in performing project monitoring review activities and prepare related documentation
  • Assist in field monitoring of enforcement efforts
  • Preparing and facilitating the impaired driving task force meeting(s)
  • Review monthly activity reports from grantees
  • Participate in various virtual conferences, webinars and meetings
Connecticut Career Trainees become eligible for promotion to the target classification of Transportation Planner 1, upon successful completion of the 1 or 2-year training program. Length of training program is determined by the incumbent’s education and the target class requirements.


  • Salary Note: During the first year of training, Connecticut Career Trainees with a Bachelor's degree earn $52,661 per year, and Connecticut Career Trainees with a Master's degree earn $54,557 per year. During the second year of training, the salary increases to $60,254 per year.
